About

About this site

Immigration records concern people whose lives are larger than the files the government keeps on them. Those records also show how public power is exercised: what government does, what it costs, and whether its conduct matches its own rules and statements. The public needs access to the evidence to judge for itself.

I run this site to help make that judgment possible. The work is straightforward: send a request, record the date, count the days, and make the response available for you to read.

This site tracks the requests I send to federal agencies and local governments about immigration policy and enforcement. It publishes the records released, explains how to request them, and maintains a sourced library for advocates and immigration practitioners. Behind the files are people trying to build a life, find safety or stay with their families. They deserve care, and the institutions deciding their futures deserve scrutiny.

I will tell you what the record shows, what I infer from it, and what is still unknown, whether or not it is what I expected. A fast response goes on the record as plainly as a long delay.

You can do this work too, and I'll show you how to begin.

This site is an independent public resource and a Shelterwood Commons site. It is not a law firm, is not affiliated with any government agency, and does not provide legal advice.

Suggest records to request

To suggest records for a future request, see "Suggest records to request" on How you can help.

Where the tracker data comes from

I filed each request on the tracker. Its facts come from my own filing records and are published only after review. Every tracker page shows the date its figures come from. How days are counted
